The successful development of wind farms that generate low-cost electricity requires
accurate information about the long-term wind regime at the proposed development
sites. It also requires the selection of the most suitable model of wind turbine.
After we have addressed these issues, we can make long-term energy forecasts
for each project. We do this using proven and validated measuring techniques
and analytical tools. These tools take into account:
·
The site climatic conditions;
·
The local terrain, and its impact upon wind speed;
·
The power curves of the turbines under consideration.
Once a promising site has been identified, the proposed Wind Farm layout will
be further refined in order to optimise its energy yield, reduce noise and keep
costs to a minimum.
